Transfer

2016

On Turrbal and Jagera land

A-CH Gallery, West End

A collection of prints by Zuzana Kovar.

Transfer explores the material dilution of boundaries between bodies and spaces. It explores the transfer of material/ matter from one body or space to another. Through such an exploration, the work seeks to allude to the heterogeneous and volatile nature of bodies and spaces, as well as all other entities generally.

The exhibition presents a series of carbon paper prints. These prints utilise carbon paper, which is seen as a volatile medium, transferring ink upon contact to not only a paper substrate but simultaneously to the fingers of the maker and adjacent surfaces. Each print adopts a mark that is repeated across the surface of the page, creating a textural field with naturally occurring variations resulting from the pressure exerted to make each individual mark, the amount of ink that is transferred and the volume of ink present on the carbon sheet. Pattern and composition are largely given by the particularities of the ink transfer, error and malfunction.
