Fairfield House

2026

On Turrbal and Jagera land

Fairfield House is an alteration and addition to an elevated, timber Queenslander on a bushy, flood prone site in the suburb of Fairfield, adjacent the Brisbane River. The interior of the existing house has been selectively reworked to connect the front of the house through to the back garden with a dining room and new kitchen.

A narrow verandah is strung along the back of the existing house, allowing new openings onto the garden. The verandah provides external access to a new studio / bedroom, which stands apart from the existing house, capturing garden and views in between.

The hardwood structure of the verandah establishes a repetitive rhythm across the back elevation and supports a deep roof overhang, creating a shady position elevated above potential flood waters and overlooking the existing dense vegetation.
